From Corporate Sunday Night Dread to 5-Star Pet Service Business Owner in Less Than a Year

Updated: Jul 12

Tell me about life and work before coaching with Amy?

I was a project manager for the past six years in different industries. The role was often stressful and frustrating, but people told me I was good at it. With every job I took, the time in the role reduced as I was unhappy but would blame the place, culture, or workload. There were elements of these factors in why I kept moving; however, it wasn’t the whole story as to why I was so unhappy. I was in denial and never gave myself the time to explore what I wanted out of a career. Like others, I would often have the Sunday night dread, grind my teeth in my sleep, have teary outbursts, and constantly complain to my partner. I knew I wasn’t happy but didn’t know what to do. I didn’t have a vision of the future; it was kind of all on hold. The idea of trying a new career terrified me.

What have you been doing since coaching?

I now work as an independent dog groomer after retraining in this industry. I’m now working towards a new vision of being fully booked up for six months in advance, with regular clientele and running my own premises.

People close to me say I seem much more relaxed, happy, and healthier. My partner says I moan less, and not just about work - there have been improvements all around. Until I left my job, I didn’t realize how much it was affecting my life. I no longer dream about work, grind my teeth, or feel exhausted. I am excited about going to work. I don’t mind working a bit later on something I’m passionate about, and my face lights up when I talk about my day.

What else did you gain from coaching with Amy?

I have learned that I am capable and braver than I knew. I am most proud of taking the plunge to leave my job, retrain, and do it all on my own. I went from not knowing a lot about the industry to up skilling, building my website, and setting up my business.

I’ve learned that corporate life is not for me. Being who I am is a good thing, and letting my personality shine is one of my strongest gifts. It is okay to make mistakes, and I actually enjoy them as they are mine to own these days. I’ve also learned that you have to enjoy what you do; just being good at it or thinking you should be in that role is not enough.

I feel very positive about the future, and I’m excited to see my career grow and evolve. Look out, Pets at Home - there’s another groomer on the block :)

What would you say to anyone considering coaching with Amy?

Without Amy, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I would still be in project management, hating my life. I was lost and didn’t know where to start before my coaching sessions, and my confidence was too low to explore career changes. Amy helped build my confidence and explore potential careers. I have changed so much through this experience with Amy. They have been invaluable to me. For the first time in my life, I am happy with my job. I am confident, feel in control, and am proud of my choices.
